SILVER LAKE, CA - NOVEMBER 30, 2024 - - Homeowners Dr. Pascal Dabel, right, gives his son Lucien, 3, a kiss while spending time with his wife Marina and son Lorenzo, 7, in front of Textile House #1, an ADU they had built in Silver Lake on November 30, 2024. The ADU was designed by Nwankpa Design, led by Nigerian American architect Susan Nwankpa Gillespie. The 1,182 square foot two story ADU - formerly a two car garage - is inspired by Ewe/Kente weaving, with part of the facade resembling a cloth's warp and weft structure. The Dabel's wanted to build an ADU that functions as an extension of the yard on the lower level to provide more space for indoor/outdoor living and family time with their two young sons. They also wanted the flexibility to use the ADU as a play area and home office. The ADU also features a 281 square foot roof deck on the second floor. (Genaro Molina/Los Angeles Times)
