Extension Courses Focus on Homes

UCLA Extension in Santa Monica is offering three summer courses of interest to homeowners and others.
* “Anatomy of a House” will cover the construction process, with every facet of the home explained, including the foundation, floors, walls, ceilings, roof, interior and exterior finishes, doors and mechanical systems as well as kitchens and bathrooms and their relationships to the total design of the house. The course will meet on Thursdays, this week through Sept. 11, 4 to 7 p.m. The fee is $395.
* “Design of a Small House” shows how to make today’s dream house a scaled-down fantasy through redesign of a 1,000-square-foot house. The course will meet on Thursdays, this week through Sept. 11, 7 to 10 p.m. Fee is $395.
* “Seaside Houses: A One-Day Study Tour” will be led by architect Jeffrey Daniels, head of UCLA Extension’s architecture, interior and environmental design program. A pre-tour lecture takes place on Aug. 8, 7 to 9 p.m. The tour takes place on Aug. 9, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fee is $150.
All classes will meet at the extension campus, 1338 3rd St., Santa Monica.
