Costa Mesa : OCC Snack Bar Area Gains New Popularity

Orange Coast College’s student government has completed a campus beautification project that has made the eastern quadrangle one of the most popular places on campus.
The $150,000 project involved landscaping and renovating a heavily used snack bar area at the eastern end of the community college campus, near the library and administration buildings.
Sharon K. Donoff, dean of students, said the student government body, Associated Students, donated the cost of the project because students said the original area was the most unattractive, dreary part of the campus and lacked amenities.
“The snack bar was considered an eyesore on campus,” Donoff said. “Students wanted to improve the looks, and so about three years ago this project was started.”
She said the project took a long time to complete because it had to be approved at the state level and endorsed by the state architect’s office.
The job involved the redesign of the snack bar’s interior and the construction of a large, covered patio area complete with picnic tables outside. “It has turned the area into a very popular student gathering spot,” Donoff said.
Associated Students owns both the snack bar and the campus bookstore. Profits from each helped pay for the renovation project.
