California: Irvine hotel offers shop-and-stay rate of $79

For those planning to shop at brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday, an overnight stay may be in order. (And I don’t mean camping out in a parking lot.) The Hyatt Regency Irvine sets holiday rates at $79 a night, and it’s shopper-close to the Irvine Spectrum, South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
The deal: The hotel is just off the 405 Freeway (Jamboree Road exit) in Irvine. Along with the holiday room price comes another little perk: gift-wrapping in the lobby, with proceeds going to local charities. It costs $5 to wrap small gifts, $10 for large ones.
When: The offer is good for rooms from Friday through Nov. 24 and Dec. 14 to Jan. 1.
Tested: I checked on rates for Black Friday (Nov. 23) and found availability for a room with a king-sized bed or two doubles. It’s $20 off the best available rate on the same night, which adds up if you stay more than one night.
