From Lonely Planet to you: Freebie mobile guide for NYC
- Share via
Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet has a little holiday present for you. The New York City mobile app usually costs $5.99, but you can download it free through Thursday. Save it on your iPhone and iPad for your next trip to the Big Apple, and tell your friends. It’s like regifting, without have to re-wrap anything.
The deal: Start by going to the iTunes store and downloading the free mobile app labeled “Lonely Planet Travel Guides, Phrasebooks and Maps.” Select the New York City guide and download.
When: The app is free until 6 a.m. PST Thursday.
Tested: It’s a hefty file at 45MB; it took me several tries to successfully download the app to my iPhone. (It might have been my connection.) Once downloaded, I was able to search for “Places to Eat” (by neighborhood), peruse the “Gay & Lesbian New York” section and learn the “Dos & Don’ts” (starting with the basics: “Only hail a taxi if its roof light is on.”).
