WHERE TO EAT
Chapeau! 1408 Clement St.; (415) 750-9787, www.bistrochapeau.yp guides.net. Fixed-price three- and four-course menus, $25 and $32, respectively. Entrees $14 to $19.
Fringale, 570 4th St.; (415) 543-0573, www.fringalesf.com. Another bustling bistro with a full bar, it serves French and Basque cuisine. Entrees $16 to $25. The duck confit and steamed mussels are my favorites.
Tadich Grill, 240 California St.; (415) 391-1849. Although some friends think Tadich lives on reputation, I find it a great San Francisco lunch spot. Entrees $17 to $27.
Betelnut, 2030 Union St.; (415) 929-8855, www.betelnutrestaurant.com. Sample Cecilia’s minced chicken with lup cheong sausage in lettuce cups, or betel nut poké with limu, sweet onions and shoyu; all are good. Dishes $6 to $20.
The Cliff House, 1090 Point Lobos; (415) 386-3330, www.cliffhouse.com. It has three restaurant- bars of varying formality. The ocean view is great.
