Bridgeville Bridgefest near Fortuna

They take their flying saucers seriously in Bridgeville, where the annual fundraiser for the Bridgeville Community Center is a contest that pits entrants’ disk-shaped crafts. The saucers are tossed off Old Bridgeville Bridge. There are serious rules. Here’s one from the website: The saucer shall have an accessible cabin that contains a representation of each member of the crew and an operations manual. Besides the saucers, you’ll find barbecue, snow cones, live music, local arts and crafts for sale and bounce houses for the kids at this event about 45 miles southeast of Eureka.
When, where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18 on the Old Bridgeville Bridge, off California 36, about 25 miles from Fortuna near mile marker 24.
Admission: Free; entry fee for saucer contest, $5.
