John Wayne Airport’s gift to travelers: faster, free Wi-Fi

John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County is giving passengers an early holiday gift: faster Wi-Fi service that’s free for as long as four hours.
Wi-Fi speed jumps from 5 megabits per second to 20 megabits per second, and coverage has been improved to include the terminal as well as ticketing areas and sidewalks, according to a Tuesday news release.
Passengers sign in just once and won’t encounter ads when using the free Wi-Fi.
Of course it’s not super-fast like Denver International Airport (DEN), where passengers enjoy average speeds of 78 megabits per second, according to a 2017 Speedtest report on airport internet speeds.
Still, the change at John Wayne may improve connectivity for the more than 10 million passengers who use the airport each year.
By comparison, Wi-Fi at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is free in increments of 45 minutes with a speed of 5 megabits per second. Passengers have to view an ad or short video to access the free Wi-Fi. Faster speeds are offered for $7.95 for 24 hours.
