Rio-bound Fischer sisters get a warm sendoff

The city gave Makenzie and Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach a warm sendoff Wednesday as the sisters will soon head to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The Fischers are part of the 13-player U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team, which will begin group play against Spain on Aug. 9.

Makenzie, a defender, graduated from Laguna Beach High in 2015, while Aria, a center, will be a senior this fall. The sisters played on Laguna Beach High teams that won consecutive CIF Southern Section Division I titles in 2014 and 2015.
Team USA will play against Russia July 21 in San Diego, July 24 at UCLA and July 27 at Stanford to prepare for the Olympics.
