USC’s Steve Sarkisian says he won’t coach at satellite camps

Don’t expect a viral Internet video of USC Coach Steve Sarkisian instructing drills shirtless at a satellite instructional/evaluation camp to surface any time soon.

Satellite camps came to the forefront of summer football discussions when Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff announced their “Summer Swarm” tour and traveled to seven states in June to coach at nine camps, including two in California.

Sarkisian said Saturday between sessions of a USC-hosted camp on campus that he hasn’t traveled to any other program’s camps and doesn’t intend to.

“I just made a personal decision as a head coach not to do them,” Sarkisian said, adding that if he worked one, he would be “almost obligated to work them all.”

USC assistants have traveled to coach at multiple camps.

Sarkisian announced Tuesday that coaches from Utah State, Boise State, Nevada Las Vegas, Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington and Montana would instruct at USC’s Rising Stars camp on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sarkisian said he thought the traveling camps “watered down” other camps.

“We have an amazing campus and we want the kids to come to our camp,” Sarkisian said.
