Update: The main concern for any team playing Arizona State is freshman guard Jahii Carson, who is averaging 17.7 points and 5.1 assists a game. He scored 22 against UCLA on Wednesday in an overtime loss. Only one other freshman in college basketball over the last 16 years has averaged 17 points and five assists — Ben Woodside of North Dakota State. On the road, Carson is even better, averaging 21.3 points and shooting 51.7%. This is USC’s last regular-season home game and the Trojans are trying to, as interim Coach Bob Cantu says over and over, play their best basketball going into the Pac-12 tournament, which begins March 13 in Las Vegas. The Trojans are seventh in the conference, a half-game behind Arizona State. In its upset win over 11th-ranked Arizona on Wednesday, USC’s three seven-footers had 11 points, 14 rebounds and blocked eight shots. USC outscored Arizona inside, 42-32.
