Target practice
One big difference between USC’s offense with Matt Barkley and UCLA’s with Brett Hundley is that Hundley spreads the ball around — USC has three players who have reached double figures in receptions; UCLA has eight.
A comparison between Barkley and USC’s top two receivers, Marqise Lee and Robert Woods, and Hundley and UCLA’s top receivers, Shaquelle Evans and Steven Manfro:
USC
Barkley: 171 completions, 2,266 yards, 25 TDs
Lee: 76 receptions, 1,129 yards, 10 TDs
Woods: 53 receptions, 585 yards, 9 TDs
Lee and Woods have combined for 75.4% of Barkley’s completions, 75.6% of his yards passing and 76% of his touchdowns.
UCLA
Hundley: 186 completions, 2,190 yards, 18 TDs
Evans: *32 receptions, 484 yards, 2 TDs
Manfro: 26 receptions, 253 yards, 1 TD
Evans and Manfro have combined for 31.2% of Hundley’s completions, 33.7% of his yards passing and 16.7% of his touchdowns.
*Evans has 33 receptions this season, but one of them was on a pass thrown by Richard Brehaut.
