Watch Florida State QB Everett Golson blow up Boston College lineman with a block
- Share via
The offensive linemen protect the quarterback from the opposing team’s defensive linemen, or at least that’s the way it’s supposed to work. But in the case of Florida State quarterback Everett Golson, it might be the other way around.
Golson is listed at 6-foot, 199 pounds by Florida State, but if you ask Boston College defensive end Kevin Kavalec (6-foot-2, 253 pounds), he might say Golson plays bigger than that.
During their first drive, the Seminoles ran a misdirection play with Golson handing off the ball to running back Dalvin Cook as he ran to the nearside of the field.
Cook then flipped the ball to receiver Kermitt Whitfield, who was crossing the other way, which is where Kavalec met Golson.
As the defensive end switched directions and continued his pursuit of the ball, Golson became the only Florida State player between Kavalec and his receiver, so he lowered his shoulder, dug in and dropped the bigger man.
Kavalec suffered a concussion and did not return to the game. Florida State went on to beat Boston College, 14-0.
No. 9 Florida State (2-0, 1-0 ACC) is scheduled to play Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1 ACC) on Oct. 3. Boston College (2-1, 0-1 ACC) is set to return to action against Northern Illinois (2-0, 0-0 MAC) on Sept. 26.
