Derek Jeter may be known as one of baseball’s ultimate nice guys. But apparently he’s a different person on the golf course.
So says none other than the president of the United States.
President Obama was attending a fundraiser Monday night at the home of Las Vegas Sun owner Brian Greenspun and his wife, Myra, when he told a story of being hustled by the newspaper man and Jeter on a Nevada golf course back in November.
“He and Derek Jeter stole money from me at Shadow Creek,” Obama said of Greenspun. “It was clearly a setup, because when we got to the practice range, he was shanking balls everywhere. I said, ‘You play golf, Derek?’ And he said, ‘I just started two weeks ago.’”
So, Obama said, they gave Jeter 30 strokes. But it quickly became apparent the New York Yankees legend needed no such advantage.
“We had to take a picture of me handing Derek Jeter money at the end of the game,” Obama told the crowd.
