Donald Sterling scandal: NBA releasing investigation results Tuesday

The NBA just said Monday it will hold a press conference on Tuesday to a make an announcement about its investigation involving Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had said during a press conference Saturday night that the league had hoped to complete its investigation before Game 5 of the first-round playoffs series Tuesday night between the Clippers and Golden State Warriors.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson also said Sunday that the National Basketball Players’ Assn. asked the NBA for the punishment against Sterling be levied before the game at Staples Center on Tuesday night.

Johnson is assisting the players’ union in its response to the controversy involving Sterling’s alleged racist comments about African Americans.

A voice reported to be Sterling’s is heard in an audio recording released by TMZ on Friday night telling a friend that he was upset she had posted a photo on Instagram of herself next to Lakers legend Magic Johnson. The person on the recording alleged to be Sterling didn’t want his friend to be associated with black people.

“This situation is a massive distraction for the players and the league right now,” Kevin Johnson said at halftime of the Clippers’ 118-97 loss to the Warriors on Sunday. “It must be addressed immediately and we have to put this great game back on track so we can talk about the playoffs going forward.”
