Lucy Li, 11, copes with rough day at U.S. Women’s Open

There are certain advantages to being 11 years old in a field of veteran golfers at the U.S. Women’s Open.
After finishing Thursday’s first round with a less-than-stellar score of eight over par, Lucy Li knew just how to revive her spirits.
“Eat some more ice cream,” she said.
Li now officially ranks as the youngest player in Open history. Though hitting a reasonable number of fairways, she had trouble with the bunkers and talked about how one missed shot can make all the difference.
“It was kind of tough, but I hung in there,” she said, adding: “I’m glad that I got it over with.”
Another good thing about youth -- hope springs eternal.
“I can’t wait for tomorrow,” she said.
With afternoon groups teeing off, Stacy Lewis stood as the clubhouse leader at 3-under.
