Angels 3, Royals 2
AT THE PLATE: Mike Trout lifted his Cactus League average to .400. He homered and doubled, and he leads the Angels with four home runs and 14 runs batted in. David Freese went hitless in three at-bats. He is batting .212 this spring, with no extra-base hits in 33 at-bats.
ON THE MOUND: Jered Weaver retired 13 consecutive batters at one point. Nick Maronde, who could open the season as the lone left-hander in the Angels’ bullpen, relieved Weaver and retired left-handed batters Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon. Brandon Lyon, a longshot for the last bullpen spot, earned the save and lowered his spring earned-run average to 1.59.
EXTRA BASES: Pitcher Hector Santiago got a Ducks sweater, with his name and number on it, then threw it on for a video wishing the Ducks good luck in the NHL playoffs. Santiago said he grew up a hockey fan in New Jersey. When he was with the Chicago White Sox last year and played X-Box hockey with his teammates, Santiago said he would be the Ducks.
UP NEXT: vs. Kansas City at 1 p.m. on Friday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. On the air: TV: FS West; Radio: 830.
