Southern Section announces Champions for Character Award winners

The 12th annual Dr. Jim Staunton Champion for Character Awards will take place Sept. 28 at The Grand in Long Beach. The recipients are honored for “Pursuing Victory with Honor.”
The student honorees include Marie Abe of North Torrance; Cristian Ayala of Oxnard Pacifica; Emily Bacon of Newport Harbor; Tayler Bennett of St. Anthony; Madeleine Coopersmith of Mayfield; Logan Dreese of Heritage; Tyler Gerrard of Lakeside; Emma Hovanec of Westridge; Lucky Jordan of Barstow; Jack Koulos of Long Beach Wilson; Elisa Pierre of Golden Valley; Emma Reed of Aliso Niguel; Seve Rodriguez of La Canada; Allison Samp of Academy of Academic Excellence; Destiny Tellez of Azusa.
Coaches to be honored are Adam Schulhofer of Canyon Country Canyon; Kelle Bond of Capistrano Valley Christian; Aaron Flowers of San Juan Hills; Andrew Gates of Damien; Colin Gilliland of Lakeside; Jack Hastert of St. John Bosco; Gary Jackson of San Dimas; Scott Larsen of Calvary Chapel; Jon McFarland of Oxnard Pacifica; Ed Prange of Loara; Erik Starkey of Covina.
Cary Osborne, former Santa Clarita Signal sports editor, will be honored from the media.
Elsinore, Hemet, Lakeside and Sherman Indian will receive school awards.
Administrators to be honored include Kristen Braun of Jurupa Hills; Michael Gerakos of University; Kitt Holk of Bonita; Kirk Kennedy of Fountain Valley; Matt Maeda of San Gorgonio; David Martinez of Estancia; Craig Miller of Hamilton; Ramiro Rubalcaba of Azusa.
The Commissioner’s Award recipients are Kimberley Fricker, Anaheim Canyon; John Hansen, Los Alamitos; Holli Jackson, Edison.
