Loyola to play its first home football game in more than 50 years

Los Angeles Loyola has decided to bring in some 4,000 bleachers and seats and hold its first on-campus varsity football game in more than 50 years on Sept. 12 against San Diego St. Augustine, Athletic Director Chris O’Donnell said.
It will be played on Smith Field, which has a turf field and an all-weather track but not very large permanent seating. Portable lights will be brought in. If all goes well, Loyola could move all its home football games to the campus in 2015.
But much still needs to be worked on, such as parking and security for a Friday night game at Loyola.
The Cubs have played their home games at L.A. Valley College and before that, Glendale High.
“I think people are interested in getting people back to campus,” O’Donnell said.
It will be interesting to see the reaction of alumni to playing home games on campus, and much will certainly depend on figuring out parking requirements.
