Girls’ golf: Granada Hills, Carol Cheng win City Section titles
- Share via
Granada Hills won its sixth consecutive City Section girls’ golf championship on Wednesday and Carol Cheng took her second straight individual title in another close ending at Balboa Golf Course.
Last season, Cheng and Cleveland’s Amanda Lee finished in a tie for the individual title but Cheng was awarded the win based on a better back nine score.
On Monday, Cheng and Lee, now juniors, each shot three-under par 70 to finish tied again. This time, they went to a playoff to decide the champion, and Cheng made a birdie on the second playoff hole to claim victory.
Granada Hills won the team title with a score of 436. Cleveland finished second at 470.
Asked how come Cheng and Lee are so close, Granada Hills Coach Steve Thompson said, “They’re very equal and very good players.”
