Football: Time to recognize those specialists known as long snappers
- Share via
Specialists are needed in football, and that means long snappers. Thanks to Chris Rubio and his determination to get long snappers recognition, long snappers are being noticed and not just if they make a mistake.
Rubio has provided me with his rankings of top long snappers in Southern California.
No. 1 for the Class of 2017 is Noah Rodriguez-Trammell of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. “Sky is the limit,” Rubio says.
No. 2 is Kyle Gibbs of Norco. No. 3 is Alex Michaelsen of Newport Harbor. No. 4 is Doug Haugh of Redlands and No. 5 is Andrew Toothman of Damien.
For the juniors, there’s James Townsend of Crespi, Kyle Petrucci of Corona del Mar and Gabriel Cervantes of Damien.
Now that’s interesting _ two long snappers from Damien. Ah, there’s only one ball.
For the sophomores, No. 1 is Simon Samarzich of Upland.
Long snappers are a kicker’s best friend.
