Football: Strong group of City Section quarterbacks
- Share via
In reviewing position by position some of the top players in the City Section, quarterback should be one of the strongest areas for talent.
Crenshaw’s Ajene Harris has one of the most powerful arms and got his team into last year’s City Section Division I final.
Venice’s Alexander Diamont will be entering his third year as a starter. He’s committed to Indiana and has put on weight and gained strength.
No quarterback will have better statistics than San Fernando’s 6-foot-3 Cristian Solano, who’s coming off a junior season in which he passed for 3,064 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Division II champions. He could go for 4,000 yards passing.
Eban Jackson, a transfer from Long Beach Poly, will take over at defending City champion Narbonne.
Gilbert Soto of Lincoln passed for more than 2,000 yards as a junior. Emanuel Castro of Birmingham is one of the best City Section 400-meter runners and he’ll get to use his speed at quarterback.
Sophomore Clarence Williams of Sylmar was an impact player as a freshman. Taylor Mensik of Palisades will get to show what he can do after the Dolphins abandoned their wishbone attack.
Games begin on Aug. 29 and 30.
