St. John Bosco quarterback Josh Rosen and Mater Dei quarterback Chase Forrest figure to face one of their toughest challenges of the season on Friday night from secondary talent that is overflowing in a Trinity League showdown at St. John Bosco.
St. John Bosco has the college-bound foursome of Jaleel Wadood (California), Naijiel Hale (Arizona), Chandler Hawkins (Air Force) and Brett Baldwin (undecided). Mater Dei has Jonathan Lockett (Washington), Johnny Johnson and Matthew Rockett, all of whom are fast, aggressive and tough.
“This is probably the most talented group we’ve had to play against,” St. John Bosco Coach Jason Negro said.
Mater Dei’s receiving group should be strengthened by the return of Ben Humphreys, who hasn’t played since being injured in the fourth game against Santa Monica.
St. John Bosco’s receivers are led by USC-bound Shay Fields.
The game will be televised at 7:30 p.m. by Fox Sports West. St. John Bosco is 8-0 and ranked No. 1 by The Times. Mater Dei is 7-1 and ranked No. 7.
Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson said of the Braves, “To be honest, we haven’t seen a team of this caliber in a lot of years.”
