Football: Let’s see who can top Jonathan Saavedra’s 527 yards passing

It’s the year of the quarterback in Southern California high school football, so it’s not surprising that in last week’s season openers, a quarterback went crazy passing the ball.
But who is Jonathan Saavedra, who passed for 527 yards and seven touchdowns in Santa Clarita Christian’s 68-20 win over Chula Vista Lutheran?
Well, he’s a four-year starter for a school that switched to 11-man football during his freshman season. He’s 5 feet 11 and can also run.
“He can make all the throws,” Coach Garrick Moss said.
Santa Clarita Christian used to be known as a running team but switched to a spread offense after hiring quarterback coach Chazz Anderson, a former Cincinnati quarterback.
Four different receivers had more than 100 yards in receptions.
Next up is a Friday game against Malibu.
