City Section is not pleased with Time Warner Cable

This is the final year of a five-year contract giving Time Warner Cable the rights to televise City Section sporting events. And the City Section isn’t too happy the way things are going.
Time Warner Cable announced its schedule for fall events on Wednesday, and City Section Commissioner John Aguirre said he was disappointed that only six football games are scheduled during the regular season. Last season, three girls’ volleyball matches and three fan choice games were also shown. They have vanished this year.
Adding to the issue is that a scheduled game between Narbonne and Gardena Serra for Friday was canceled after the venue changed. It moved from El Camino College to Serra, which meant that Fox Sports had exclusive rights to televise because of its contract with the Southern Section. The City Section suggested switching to Alemany-Garfield. That was declined.
Time Warner Cable is paying the City Section $30,000 a year for exclusive rights to its sporting events. It is expected to still televise championships in football, basketball and baseball.
Aguirre has been pushing for more girls’ events to be televised.
A spokesman for Time Warner Cable declined comment.
Time Warner Cable will have first crack at negotiating a contract extension next year, but Aguirre is expected to seek alternatives for more exposure for the City Section. The problem is there probably aren’t a lot of alternatives.
