Santa Monica made its summer basketball debut on Monday at the Crespi tournament, and missing was standout guard Spencer Freedman, who started as a freshman.
A phone call to Freedman confirmed what had been rumored for days. Freedman is transferring to Santa Ana Mater Dei.
Freedman’s departure launches what could be another busy summer of basketball players switching schools.
Now all eyes are on St. John Bosco senior Vance Jackson. Many are predicting he will transfer to Pasadena Maranatha, where another former St. John Bosco player, Tyler Dorsey, went last season.
As of Monday morning, Jackson had not checked out of St. John Bosco, but he also hasn’t attended any Brave practices under new coach Matt Dunn.
