Sharrief Metoyer, scheduled to return as coach at Long Beach Poly this coming season after serving a one-year suspension, said Monday he has decided not to coach the Jackrabbits and will pursue other options and challenges. He will continue to teach at Poly.
Principal Joe Carlson said Metoyer submitted his resignation Monday afternoon.
Metoyer endorsed interim Coach Shelton Diggs for the position. Diggs guided Poly to its 20th Southern Section championship this past season.
Diggs said he would be interested in taking over the program.
Metoyer had to sit out last season after playing an ineligible player during the state playoffs in protest.
