Boys’ basketball: Jeff Stephens stops coaching at St. Francis

Following a 47-33 loss to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Jeff Stephens announced to his players he no longer would be co-coaching the team with Ray O’Brien.
“I’m done,” he said Tuesday. “I’ve had enough. I’m burned out.”
Stephens, who had been co-coaching the team for seven years, had grown frustrated with what he considered was a lack of support from the administration for the basketball program. His top returning player for this season, Kyle Leufroy, left for a prep school before the season.
The team is 0-8 in the Mission League. O’Brien will take over for the remainder of the season and be considered for the head coach position when the season is completed, Athletic Director Matt Luderer said.
