Baseball: San Clemente’s Kolby Allard goes No. 14 to Atlanta Braves

It was a happy Monday for San Clemente pitcher Kolby Allard.
Sidelined for much of the 2015 high school season because of a stress reaction in his back, Allard was selected No. 14 overall by the Atlanta Braves in the amateur draft.
The left-hander who signed with UCLA was expected to be the No. 1 pitcher in Southern California until his injury.
Former Claremont High pitcher Dillon Tate of UC Santa Barbara went No. 4 to the Texas Rangers.
With the No. 16 pick, the New York Yankees selected UCLA pitcher James Kaprielian, a Beckman High grad.
Former Oaks Christian pitcher Phil Bickford went No. 18 to the San Francisco Giants.
San Dimas pitcher Peter Lambert was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 44th pick.
Long Beach Wilson catcher Chris Betts went No. 52 to the Tampa Bay Rays.
San Clemente catcher Lucas Herbert went No. 54 to the Braves.
Cal Poly Pomona pitcher Cody Ponce, a Damien grad, went No. 55 to the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round.
