For three seasons, left-hander Marco Briones of Alhambra has been close to an automatic victory whenever he has taken the mound.
His record is 26-1, including 5-0 this season. He’s set to pitch on Tuesday against Bell Gardens in an Almont League game.
Alhambra is 15-3 and 9-0 in league.
Briones, a 5-foot-10 senior, has an 0.18 ERA this season, with 59 strikeouts in 40 innings. He came to Alhambra from Bishop Amat as a sophomore.
“Somebody is going to get a good one,” Coach Steve Gewecke said. “He doesn’t walk many. He doesn’t get rattled. The big moment doesn’t shake him.”
Alhambra competes in Division 4, and with Briones in the playoffs, beware.
