Baseball: 6-foot-7 Justin Campbell of Simi Valley is off to impressive start _ on JVs
- Share via
When is the last time a high school baseball coach was receiving phone calls from college and pro scouts about a JV player?
Well, Simi Valley Coach John Arisohn set himself up for extra duty by putting 6-foot-7 freshman pitcher Justin Campbell on JVs to start the season.
Campbell has responded by going 2-0 with 19 strikeouts in 11 innings. He also hit a grand slam in a game. And yes, college scouts have been showing up.
Simi Valley is loaded with varsity pitching returnees, so it’s been a good idea to let Campbell get settled in. He’s expected to be brought up to varsity at the end of the month when Simi Valley travels to Arizona for a tournament.
He’s the younger brother of former Simi Valley standout Matt Campbell, now at Cal State Northridge.
And JV parents who think their sons should be playing on varsity will get a reality check when they see them take on Campbell.
