Opinion: Did anyone actually expect Trump to make the right decision on Roy Moore?

To the editor: Well, well: President Trump as a moral arbiter? (“Trump backs Roy Moore despite alleged sexual misconduct: ‘He denies it,’” Nov. 21)

He has weighed in on basketball players shoplifting in China and Sen. Al Franken’s (D-Minn.) more than questionable behavior with a sleeping associate on a USO tour, and now he supports Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore despite allegations he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl and preyed upon other teenagers.

Oh, for the good old days when our presidents were true moral arbiters, like when Bill Clinton held that magic office or when Richard Nixon held sway over Watergate — the list goes on.

This president, however, tops any list of hypocrites. And yes, this is a “very special time” for women, as Trump says — women who seem to have finally found a common voice against this epidemic of powerful predators.

To the editor: Moore is a major headache for Republicans but one readily cured: Get him out of the Senate race by finding a government post for him elsewhere.

Just as Trump has installed a climate-chage denier as Environmental Protection Agency chief and a women who wants to privatize public education as Education secretary, surely work can be found for Moore as head of Child Protective Services somewhere in the United States.

To the editor: If Moore is elected to the United States Senate, would it be fair to say that Alabama is a sanctuary state for alleged sexual predators?
