Re “Safety vs. sea life,” Editorial, Nov. 11
Thank you for your editorial regarding PG&E;’s plan to test for fault lines in Morro Bay with air cannons and the effect on the thousands of marine mammals there.
As you wrote, “it’s imperative for California to have more definitive knowledge about the seismic hazards near the Diablo Canyon Power Plant.”
The proposal involves blasting “underwater air cannons every 15 seconds in Morro Bay, for about 12 days a year over four years, to produce three-dimensional images of geologic faults.”
Hopefully it will not be necessary to resort to such destructive methods. But I suspect from experience that the company cares little for the environmental devastation it causes.
