Spiritual teacher and best-selling author Marianne Williamson has raised more than $1.2 million for her campaign for an open congressional district seat, her report showed Thursday.
The Williamson campaign’s report to the Federal Election Commission showed that $267,654 of her total came during the period between April 1 and May 14. She reported having $314,663 cash on hand at the end of the period.
All of the money came from individual donors. Besides contributions, Williamson lent her campaign an additional $300,000, bringing her total investment in her race to $392,824.
Williamson is one of 18 on the June 3 primary election ballot who are vying to succeed Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Beverly Hills), who is retiring after 40 years in Congress.
Only the first- and second-place finishers in the primary can advance to the November general election, regardless of any party affiliation.
Williamson, a former Democrat who is not affiliated with any party, is viewed as one of a handful of top-tier candidates with a shot at making the November ballot.
Much of the 33rd Congressional District is solidly Democratic, although there some Republican-dominated pockets. It runs from Beverly Hills and parts of Los Angeles’ Westside out to Malibu and down the coast through the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
