A 41-year-old man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase and jumping rooftops in North Hollywood before he was flushed out of a home with tear gas pleaded not guilty Thursday to domestic violence charges.

Nolan Perez was charged with making criminal threats against a woman when authorities said he was spotted by Los Angeles police at her El Sereno home on Monday morning.

Police said Perez fled in a vehicle as officers tried to arrest him, triggering a chase that spanned several Los Angeles freeways and led to a barricade situation that paralyzed a North Hollywood neighborhood for hours and prompted authorities to lock down several schools in the area.

Police said Perez was armed with a high-powered rifle as he ditched his car and ran through the neighborhood, scurrying across rooftops before holing up inside a small, single-story home on Hartsook Street.

The dramatic, hours-long incident, which was broadcast by television news helicopters, ended when Perez walked out of the home after SWAT officers fired tear-gas projectiles inside the residence.

Perez is charged with one count of stalking and six counts of making criminal threats, according to a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The complaint alleges that Perez has prior felony convictions, including domestic violence in 2011, ex-felon with a gun in 2007 and negligent discharge of a firearm in 1997.

Perez has served time in state prison, court records show. He listed his occupation as a painter, according to booking records.
