Authorities said a Castaic man has been arrested for allegedly using a homemade spear to kill his family’s cat and dog, which he later set on fire.
Jared Foster, 23, is accused of fashioning the spear by taping a large kitchen knife to a broomstick. He used the spear, and possibly an arrow, to kill the cat Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.
Foster also is suspecting of using the spear to kill the dog. He then set the animal on fire in the backyard of the family home in 32700 block of North Ridge Top Lane, authorities said in a statement.
Foster’s brother came home to find a “dead animal in the backyard and saw a large amount of blood inside the home,” authorities said.
The brother told deputies that Foster was acting “irrationally and aggressive.” The brother fled the home and called the Sheriff’s Department.
Foster was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
