Homicide detectives are investigating human remains found buried off a roadside in rural Humboldt County.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible human grave site off Jewitt Ranch Road in the Harris area about 5 p.m. Saturday. Officials who were dispatched to the location the next day confirmed the discovery after digging up the remains, the sheriff’s office said Monday.
No information on the age, sex or identity of the remains was available. A possible cause of death was also pending an autopsy by the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office, although sheriff’s officials said in their statement that they “were treating the deceased as a homicide.”
No other details on the case were released.
Anyone with information was asked to call (707) 445-7251 or the crime tip line at (707) 268-2539.
