Architects to design stylish shelters for cats in need in Los Angeles

At past Architects for Animals “Giving Shelter” benefits in New York, architects and designers invented cutting-edge forts, modernist dwellings and cityscape shelters for the city’s homeless cat and kitten population.
The first Los Angeles benefit promises to be no different as more than a dozen architects and designers will put their drafting skills to use creating unique cat shelters for the Sept. 10 event to benefit outdoor cats in Los Angeles.
Participating design firms include Wolcott Architecture Interiors, Abramson Teiger Architects, Standard Architecture Design, D3architecture, Dsh Architecture, Formation Association and Edgar Arceneaux, HOK, Lehrer Architects, NAC Architecture, Perkins and Will, Pfeiffer Partners Architects, RNL, RTKL, and Space International.
The shelters will be unveiled during a one-night exhibit and cocktail reception at the Herman Miller Showroom in Culver City. Proceeds from the event will benefit FixNation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to minimizing cat populations through a nonlethal Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. Cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy, host of cable TV’s “My Cat from Hell” and a FixNation board member, is scheduled to attend.
Following the event, the shelters will be donated to FixNation, which will then evaluate them and decide on the best outdoor sites for their use. In addition, some of the shelters will be on display following the event at Adopt & Shop in Culver City.
