London, Mar 30 (EFE). — West Ham United Spanish goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel made “the dream of any goalkeeper” come true and scored a goal for his team after a long run from his own goal to the opponent’s, he said in an interview with EFE in London.
Adrian, 29, appeared on the cover of several British newspapers after scoring one of many goals in the testimonial match played between the current West Ham squad and its AllStar team and dedicated to his teammate and captain Mark Noble, who played more than ten seasons at the club.
The keeper, with the match at a draw, initiated a run at his area and with the invaluable help of Michail Antonio and Pedro Obiang, dodged all challengers to reach the opponent’s goal.
“It was something I talked to Antonio and Obiang about. I told them if I had the chance I would go from goal to goal and that they should protect me,” Adrian recalled in a conversation with EFE in the U.K. capital.
“Antonio never gets tired; he is physically like a bull, so I chose him. He was even in front of me once I went ahead and I had to dodge him too,” he said as he laughed.
“Once I reached the middle of the field fans throughout the stadium shouted ‘Shoot, shoot’, then Antonio took out (Rio) Ferdinand for me and I ended up getting what I wanted, and with little force I shot. It was something fun and a joke plan so people would enjoy themselves,” he said.
The testimonial of Noble, which ended in a 65 win for West Ham against the club legends, saw the participation of former East London stars such as Rio Ferdinand, Paolo Di Canio, Teddy Sheringham, Trevor Sinclair, Craig Bellamy, Yossi Benayoun and Michael Carrick.
The former Betis keeper is one of the leading men in this historic West Ham season, taking fifth place in the Premier League and dreaming of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League.
