Techno-tribalism festival Desert Hearts announces spring lineup

Desert Hearts is at the forefront of the rising wave of “transformational” festivals cultivating a house and techno scene around offshoots of Burning Man culture. The San Diego festival has announced an internationally heavy spring lineup for the April 1-4 event.
DJ Harvey, the longstanding Dionysius of L.A. club music, tops the bill, with a live set from the German duo Extrawelt, the rising Vienna/Brazilian producer Joyce Muniz, Amsterdam’s Patrice Baumel, Desert Hearts veterans Sabo and Atish, and the raucous five-man crew that puts on the festival.

The festival, in which artists perform for 72 consecutive hours, draws about 3,000 fans to the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation, which is a couple of hours inland from San Diego. Its status has grown immeasurably in the three years since its founding, and the fest remains at the vanguard of techno-tribalism while running a tight ship (last year’s fest had no reported medical calls or arrests).
