Samuel L. Jackson in, Jamie Foxx out for ‘Black Phantom’

Samuel L. Jackson, who gave moviedom one of its most memorable hit men via “Pulp Fiction’s” Jules Winnfield, may be getting his hands dirty again.

The actor is in talks to play a feared assassin opposite Kevin Hart in Screen Gems’ action-comedy “The Black Phantom,” The Times has confirmed. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

Jackson would replace Jamie Foxx, who was attached to the role but exited because of scheduling conflicts.

Frequent Hart collaborator Tim Story (“Ride Along,” “Think Like a Man Too”) is directing “Black Phantom,” which will tell the story of a mob hit man (Hart) who is double-crossed but then enlists the guy sent to kill him (Jackson, the titular phantom) to help him get revenge.

Dave Lease and Megan Hinds wrote the script, and Will Packer and Will Gluck are producing.

Jackson -- one of Hollywood’s favorite tough guys, from his iconic role in “Pulp Fiction” to his current gig as S.H.I.E.L.D. chief Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- will next be seen on the big screen in “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” He’s expected to continue his fruitful relationship with Quentin Tarantino for “The Hateful Eight.”
