Ministry of Gossip: The Abbey debuts a protest sandwich, ‘Chick-For-Gay’
- Share via
Chick-fil-A has gone from a guilty pleasure to a political phenomenon in just a few short weeks, after the president of the fast-food chain declared himself against same-sex marriage. Endorsements have come in from Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, and cries of outrage from the Jim Henson Co. and Mia Farrow, and protesters of all stripes have descended on the chain.
Now L.A.’s most playfully political bar, iconic WeHo gay space the Abbey, is offering the ultimate protest statement: the “Chick-For-Gay” sandwich.
This from the same establishment that banned straight bachelorette parties because its main clientele can’t marry in this state.
The sandwich, a breaded boneless chicken breast with sliced pickles and a buttered bun, will remain available through November’s presidential election. Abbey founder David Cooley says the dish is already a big hit with customers and that he’s willing to share the recipe with other pro-LGBT restaurants.
The Chick-For-Gay goes for $5. Politics aside, it’s never a bad thing to have a drive-thru sandwich at a fully stocked bar.
