Hurricane Sandy leads CBS to revamp Monday night lineup

Hurricane Sandy has knocked out CBS’ Monday night lineup.

Because many of its stations on the East Coast are already preempting network programming in favor of local storm coverage, CBS has decided in favor of reruns of its Monday sitcoms (“How I Met Your Mother,” “Partners,” “Two Broke Girls” and “Mike & Molly”) from 8-10 p.m. instead of new episodes. From 10-11 p.m. CBS News will program an hour on Hurricane Sandy instead of an episode of “Hawaii Five-0.”

Most stations in major markets on the East Coast including outlets in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., are already going with primarily local coverage of the storm’s impact. There are also concerns that many areas may end up losing power.

NBC and ABC have yet to say if they are planning any schedule changes Monday evening because of the storm. It is trickier for ABC because “Dancing With the Stars” is telecast live. The CW said it will carry reruns of “Gossip Girl” and “Beverly Hills 90210” rather than new episodes. Fox had already scheduled a repeat of “The X Files” for Monday night.

All three networks have already said their evening newscasts will be extended from 30 minutes to a full hour.
