HLN drops Dr. Drew from its prime-time lineup

The doctor is out at HLN.
CNN’s sister cable channel is dropping addiction expert Dr. Drew Pinsky’s nightly prime-time show, “Dr. Drew,” on Sept. 22.
The program, which has aired on HLN since 2011, is the latest casualty of an overall revamp at the channel aimed at returning it to its news roots. HLN, formerly known as CNN Headline News, will end Nancy Grace’s legal later this year, although the network said it was her decision to depart.
Pinsky, whose contract was up at HLN, will remain as a CNN contributor after “Dr. Drew” finishes its run. In a memo to staff, CNN Executive Vice President Ken Jautz, said there was mutual agreement to end the program.
“It has been a privilege working at HLN,” Pinsky said in a statement. “My executive producer Burt Dubrow and our outstanding staff and contributors were consistently exceptional. I am very excited to stay within the CNN Worldwide family as a contributor.”
Until a new program is launched for the 7 p.m. ET time slot in early 2017, HLN will air repeats of the “Forensic Files,” and original series from CNN.
