Acer Iconia Tab A510 quad-core tablet announced

Acer announced a new tablet, the Iconia Tab A510, with a solid spec sheet on Thursday. Among the highlights are a 10.1-inch screen, quad-core processor and up to 12 hours of continuous video playback.

The Iconia Tab A510 is available for pre-order now at a price of $449.99 in the U.S. and Canada -- $50 less than the cheapest third-generation Apple iPad -- and will ship running Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Other hardware details of the Iconia Tab A510: touch screen with a 1280x800 pixel resolution, a built-in HDMI port for connecting the tablet to HDTVs, 1 gigabyte of RAM, 32 gigabytes of built-in storage and a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to an extra 32 gigabytes of storage.

Thankfully, the Iconia Tab will have decent cameras as well -- a 1-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera that can shoot up to 720p video.

Along with the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, the tablet features a 12-Core Nvidia GeForce graphics processor.

The tablet also features the Olympic rings logo on the back, as part of a marketing deal between Acer and the Olympic Games. Acer hasn’t yet said when the new tablet will officially arrive at retailers.
