Veronica Roth, author of the wildly popular “Divergent” series, is starting on a new line of books. The as-yet untitled project is planned as a duology for young adults. It is to be published by Harper Collins.
The publisher describes the books as being “in the vein of Star Wars ... the story of a boy who forms an unlikely alliance with an enemy. Both desperate to escape their oppressive lives, they help each other attain what they most desire: for one, redemption, and the other, revenge.”
Roth, 26, had massive success with her first set of novels, “Divergent,” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant.” For readers hungry for something like “The Hunger Games,” Roth’s dystopias featuring a female teenage hero fit the bill. The books were quickly snapped up by Hollywood.
Shailene Woodley stars in the movie series; the second film, “Insurgent,” is to be released later this month.
In a statement about the new books, Roth said, “I’m really enjoying working on this new series. I can’t wait to share it with readers!”
Roth’s upcoming books are slated for release in 2017 and 2018.
