Barbara Walters, who has been a fixture on U.S. television since 1964 -- from the “Today” show to the “ABC Evening News” to “20/20” and “The View” -- was given a lifetime achievement award Monday at the 30th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York City.
PBS was the big network winner with six awards, spread among “Frontline,” “Bill Moyers Journal” and “Nova,” among other programs. CBS and NBC collected five Emmys apiece, including three each for “60 Minutes” and “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams.”
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented the Emmy for best documentary to HBO’s “Taxi to the Dark Side,” which previously had won an Oscar.
