The knife-wielding man who was shot and killed by El Cajon police Friday when he refused to surrender and advanced toward several officers was a longtime methamphetamine user with a lengthy arrest record, police said Monday.
Jeromiah Paul Davis, 32, ran a mile up a steep hill in 13 minutes while being chased by police. Three bean-bag shots and a Taser shot failed to halt him as he ran toward businesses and homes, police said.
Davis had been arrested for drunken driving, vandalism and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said. In 2007 he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to a year in prison.
