Orange County transportation officials voted Monday to increase county bus fares.
The Orange County Transportation Authority board of directors voted 13 to 2 to approve the first fare increase in four years. Board members Janet Nguyen and Mark Rosen opposed the change.
Under the plan, the cost of one ride would increase from $1.25 to $1.50 and a day pass from $3 to $4; monthly passes would go from $45 to $55. Other fares, such as those for seniors and people with disabilities, would also increase. OCTA officials said the hike is necessary to cover increased healthcare and pension costs, fuel expenses and reduced state funds for transportation.
The increases will go into effect Jan. 4.
