Book Critics winners are announced

NEW YORK -- Junot Diaz, whose novel “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” is a story of desire and tragedy among modern Dominicans, has won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction.
Edwidge Danticat’s “Brother, I’m Dying” won for autobiography Thursday night, and the general nonfiction prize went to Harriet Washington’s “Medical Apartheid.”
In biography, the winner was Tim Jeal’s “Stanley: The Impossible Life of Africa’s Greatest Explorer.”
